The EFT Externship is the flagship introductory 28-hour training in Emotionally Focused Therapy. During this 4-day workshop you will learn how to view relationship distress through an attachment lens and to focus on addressing your clients’ attachment needs and longings. More than just a discussion of theory, an Externship in EFT will provide you with a roadmap to work with your clients’ underlying emotions and facilitate therapy conversations that increase feelings of secure attachment, closeness and connection. It is also the first step on the road to becoming a Certified EFT Therapist.

The Externship provides an overview of the entire EFT model, including stages of treatment and the moves of the EFT Tango. Gain the tools to see which patterns keep clients stuck in distress, and learn how principles of attachment theory translate to organic, on-target interventions. Backed by 30 years of empirical research, EFT will help you guide your individual, couple, and family clients to see change in every session.

Dr. Teri Murphy is an ICEEFT Certified Trainer, Supervisor, and Therapist in Emotionally Focused Therapy, the gold standard for treating couples distress. Hosted by Southern NV EFT, this workshop will be led by international EFT educator, speaker and experienced MFT, Jim Thomas. Jim is an ICEEFT Certified EFT Trainer Emeritus, and was the co-director of the Colorado EFT Center. He is also Director Emeritus of the Denver Family Institute. He has a Private practice in Lakewood, CO, providing services to couples, families and individuals specializing in addiction.

Join us for a transformative 2-day online workshop focused on Healing Shame through Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Designed for therapists who want to deepen their understanding of how to work with shame from an attachment-based perspective, this training offers practical, evidence-based strategies to help clients navigate and heal from the deep-rooted emotional wounds that shame creates.

In this interactive workshop, you will:

Explore the attachment science behind shame and how it disrupts emotional safety and connection in relationships.

Learn to identify the markers of shame in your clients and intervene with EFT interventions that promote emotional healing.

Gain tools to create a secure therapeutic alliance where shame can be safely accessed and transformed.

Guide clients through the EFT process, helping them shift from feelings of worthlessness and disconnection to emotional resilience and self-compassion.

Understand how to integrate EFT’s Stage 1 and Stage 2 to effectively work with shame in both individual and couple’s therapy.

Shame can be one of the most difficult emotions to address in therapy, often leading to withdrawal and isolation. However, with EFT’s focus on creating secure attachments, therapists can help clients re-establish connection, trust, and emotional well-being.

This workshop is ideal for EFT practitioners, as well as other mental health professionals, looking to sharpen their skills in working with shame and deepen their understanding of the emotional dynamics behind attachment injuries. The workshop will include live demonstrations, case studies, and hands-on practice to ensure you leave with tools you can immediately apply in your practice.
